How does this program help?
The Community Counselling Program is a therapeutic program designed to provide counselling to women and men engaged in behaviours that have led them into conflict with the law.
What can this program do?
The Community Counselling Program primarily addresses criminal behaviours in two specific areas:
The Anti Criminal Thinking Program
This component of the program is designed to assist individuals to identify issues that have led to such activities, to assist them in addressing these issues and to find solutions that are socially acceptable.
Research indicates that while some commit crime because of economic need or peer pressure, this, for many, is an early symptom of gathering depression. The individual may be experiencing marital problems, feeling anxiety, depression, isolation and anger. The individual often lacks self-confidence, finds it difficult to express his/ her feelings and has trouble making decisions.
The Anger Management Program
This component of the program is designed to help the individual to understand their thinking patterns behind their anger and promotes assertive instead of aggressive reactions to life problems.
What services does this program provide?
The program is comprised of individual and group counselling sessions, which are led by counsellors who offer guidance and direction in each specific area.
Who is Eligible?
Individuals participating in this program are referred to the program by the courts, probation officers, lawyers, and other social service agencies.
Individuals referred to the program must be 18 years of age or older.
